Transformative collaboration: Setting up a modern data warehouse and an innovative supplier portal for GasLINE
Working closely with the IT department at GasLINE GmbH & Co. KG, we used Microsoft Azure technologies to build a modern data warehouse (MDWH) that now acts as a central data interface. In addition to the efficient design of the daily extraction processes from various source systems and individual applications, the simultaneous use of two central ERP systems and the coherent merging of the respective data presented us with a major challenge. In constant exchange with the specific department at GasLINE, we were able to abstract the complex relationship structures, apply them to the existing data, and thus correctly represent the technical relationships.
Optimization of processes and improvement of data quality
Building on this valuable data foundation, we took over reporting in the form of Power BI reports in mid-2023, thereby significantly expanding our area of responsibility. The provision of data structures and reporting from a single source enables efficient and targeted processing of new requirements from the specialist departments. With our tailor-made dashboards, we provide decision-making support for those responsible in the specialist departments and for management. In addition, the reports simplify the daily work of a large number of GasLINE employees, who, supported by further automation, are able to save valuable time.
Efficient partnership for a future-oriented data strategy
Another milestone in the productive collaboration with GasLINE GmbH & Co. KG is the design and implementation of a tailor-made SRM solution: the supplier portal. Created using Microsoft applications PowerPages, PowerApps, and PowerAutomate, the portal solution has been seamlessly integrated into the existing data structures and will contribute to a significant increase in data quality. The role of the MDWH as a central interface is strengthened, as data from the supplier portal is fed back into existing ERP systems in daily loading processes. In addition, the portal increases the attractiveness of GasLINE to suppliers, as the processes of reporting and data maintenance are significantly simplified.
Overall, we were able to offer GasLINE GmbH & Co. KG long-term benefits such as time savings, transparency, and improved data quality. Despite some challenges during the project, the collaboration was extremely productive and opened up new growth and development opportunities for both us and GasLINE.
